Only a select few players have managed to score consistently across multiple tournaments and leave an unforgettable mark on World Cup history. At the top of the all-time scoring list today stands German striker Miroslav Klose, followed by many legendary names of world football. 10. Gabriel Batistuta – 10 Goals

Legendary Argentine striker Gabriel Batistuta was known for his powerful shot and incredible eye for goal. Across three FIFA World Cups, he scored a total of 10 goals. Particularly impressive is the fact that he recorded two World Cup hat-tricks — against Greece in 1994 and Jamaica in 1998.

10. Gary Lineker – 10 Goals

One of England’s greatest strikers of all time, Gary Lineker left a huge mark on World Cups during the 1980s. At the 1986 World Cup, he won the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer and finished his World Cup career with 10 goals in 12 matches.

10. Grzegorz Lato – 10 Goals

Polish footballer Grzegorz Lato was one of the best players of his generation and a key member of Poland’s outstanding national team during the 1970s. At the 1974 World Cup, he was the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals and eventually finished with 10 World Cup goals overall.

10. Helmut Rahn – 10 Goals

Helmut Rahn was one of the heroes of West Germany’s 1954 World Cup-winning team. It was his goal in the final against Hungary that secured Germany’s historic title in the famous match known as the “Miracle of Bern.” He scored a total of 10 goals at World Cups.

10. Teófilo Cubillas – 10 Goals

Peruvian footballer Teófilo Cubillas is considered one of the greatest players in South American football history. Known for his superb technique and outstanding free-kick ability, he scored 10 goals at FIFA World Cups and remains Peru’s all-time leading scorer in the tournament.

10. Thomas Müller – 10 Goals

Thomas Müller is one of the most successful German footballers of the modern era. He made his World Cup debut in 2010, winning the Golden Boot, and four years later helped Germany capture the world title in Brazil.

9. Jürgen Klinsmann – 11 Goals

German striker Jürgen Klinsmann was one of the most important players for Germany during the 1990s. Known for his fighting spirit and goal-scoring instincts, he scored a total of 11 goals at FIFA World Cups.

8. Sándor Kocsis – 11 Goals

Hungarian striker Sándor Kocsis was one of the greatest goal scorers of the 1950s. At the 1954 World Cup, he scored 11 goals in just five matches and led the legendary Hungarian national team to the final.

7. Kylian Mbappé – 12 Goals

French superstar Kylian Mbappé is already among the greatest scorers in World Cup history despite still being very young. He won the World Cup with France in 2018, and four years later scored a hat-trick in the final against Argentina.

6. Pelé – 12 Goals

Legendary Pelé is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. He won three World Cup titles with Brazil and became the symbol of the golden era of Brazilian football. Pelé scored 12 goals in 14 World Cup matches.

5. Lionel Messi – 13 Goals

Lionel Messi waited a long time for the greatest trophy of his career, finally winning it in 2022 in Qatar with Argentina. One of the greatest footballers of all time, Messi has scored 13 goals at FIFA World Cups and was the key player for “La Albiceleste” on their road to the title.

4. Just Fontaine – 13 Goals

French striker Just Fontaine holds one of the most incredible records in football history. At the 1958 World Cup, he scored an astonishing 13 goals in only six matches, which remains the record for the most goals scored in a single World Cup tournament

Legendary German goal scorer Gerd Müller was considered one of the deadliest strikers in football history. In just 13 World Cup matches, he scored 14 goals, which speaks volumes about his efficiency. He won the World Cup with West Germany in 1974.

2. Ronaldo Nazário – 15 Goals

One of the greatest strikers of all time, Brazilian legend Ronaldo dazzled at World Cups during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He won two World Cup titles with Brazil and especially stood out in 2002, when he led the Seleção to the trophy with eight goals — including two in the final against Germany.

Legendary German striker Miroslav Klose holds the record for the most goals scored in FIFA World Cup history. Across four World Cups, he scored 16 goals in 24 matches, surpassing Brazil’s Ronaldo. He will especially be remembered for winning the World Cup with Germany in 2014.
