8. WŁADYSŁAW ŻMUDA – 21 MATCHES

Polish defender Władysław Żmuda made a lasting impact at World Cups during the 1970s and 1980s. With the Poland national team, he won two bronze medals at the 1974 and 1982 FIFA World Cups. In total, he played 21 matches on football’s biggest stage.

7. UWE SEELER – 21 MATCHES

German striker Uwe Seeler was one of the finest goalscorers of his generation and a symbol of West Germany’s national team during the 1960s. Across four FIFA World Cups, he played a total of 21 matches and scored nine goals. His greatest achievements were reaching the final in England in 1966 and finishing third four years later in Mexico.

6. DIEGO MARADONA – 21 MATCHES

Legendary Diego Maradona holds a special place in FIFA World Cup history thanks to his extraordinary performances at the 1986 tournament, where he led Argentina to the title. His talent, charisma, and influence on the game made him one of the greatest footballers of all time. Maradona was named the best player of the 1986 World Cup and also reached the final in Italy in 1990.

5. CRISTIANO RONALDO – 22 MATCHES

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the few footballers to have appeared in five FIFA World Cups. The Portuguese superstar was the leader of his national team for years and one of the best players in the world, making a total of 22 World Cup appearances. Ronaldo is also the all-time leading scorer in FIFA World Cup qualifiers, having scored 41 goals.

4. PAOLO MALDINI – 23 MATCHES

One of the greatest defenders in football history, Paolo Maldini served as the backbone of the Italy national team for many years. Known for his elegance, leadership, and outstanding football intelligence, Maldini played 23 World Cup matches and left a lasting legacy despite never winning the trophy.

3. MIROSLAV KLOSE – 24 MATCHES

The all-time leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history, Miroslav Klose played a total of 24 matches at the tournament. With Germany, he won the World Cup in 2014 and became remembered for his incredible efficiency and outstanding performances in big matches.

Across five World Cups, he played a total of 26 matches and finally lifted the trophy with Argentina in 2022. Along with numerous goals and assists, Messi has left an enormous mark on the history of the competition.
