Goals are what football matches are remembered for most, and ultimately, goals bring victories. Throughout the history of the Serbia national football team, strikers have emerged whose names became synonymous with the national jersey. Their goals were not just statistics – they brought wins, celebrations, and moments that are still retold today. This is a list of the greatest goal scorers ever to wear the Serbia jersey (including matches played under Yugoslavia, of which Serbia is the legal successor).


10. BORIVOJE KOSTIC (26 GOALS)

Legendary Red Star Belgrade striker and Yugoslavia international, known for his powerful shot and scoring instinct. He was a key player at the 1960 European Championship, where Yugoslavia reached the final, as well as at the Olympic Games, where he won gold. From 1956 to 1964, he scored 26 goals in 33 matches, with an impressive average of 0.79 goals per game.

9. PREDRAG MIJATOVIC (27 GOALS)

Although many remember his famous missed chance against the Netherlands at the 1998 World Cup, the legendary Podgorica-born striker gave much more to the national team. In 73 appearances for SFRY, FRY, and SCG from 1989 to 2003, he scored a total of 27 goals, averaging 0.37 per game.

8. TODOR VESELINOVIC (28 GOALS)

One of the best scorers of the 1950s and 1960s, known for his sharp sense of positioning. Between 1953 and 1961, he made 37 appearances for Yugoslavia and scored 28 goals, averaging 0.76 per game. His record still places him among the most efficient Yugoslav strikers.

7. DUSAN BAJEVIC (29 GOALS)

The popular “Prince of Neretva” was one of the most elegant strikers of Yugoslav football. From 1970 to 1977, he scored 29 goals in 37 international matches, known for his awareness in the box and calm finishing. He averaged 0.78 goals per game.

6. RAJKO MITIC (32 GOALS)

Captain and symbol of Red Star Belgrade, as well as one of the most beloved players in the national team. In 59 matches between 1946 and 1957, he scored 32 goals, remembered for his fair play, dedication, and thunderous shots. The Red Star stadium today bears his name. His average was 0.54 goals per game.

3. SAVO MILOSEVIC (37 GOALS)

Tied for third place with two other players, Milosevic became Serbia’s leading striker after the breakup of Yugoslavia. Between 1994 and 2008, he made a record 102 appearances, scoring 37 goals with an average of 0.36 per match.

3. BLAGOJE MARJANOVIC (37 GOALS)

Known as “Moša”, he was part of the first World Cup in 1930. From 1926 to 1938, he played 58 matches and scored 37 goals. As one half of the famous Moša–Tirke duo, he was among the first icons of Yugoslav football. His average was 0.64 goals per game.

3. MILAN GALIC (37 GOALS)

One of the most versatile Yugoslav strikers, known for his fighting spirit and sense for goal. He scored 37 goals in 51 matches between 1959 and 1965. Galic was also the top scorer at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, where Yugoslavia won gold. His average was 0.73 goals per game.

2. STJEPAN BOBEK (38 GOALS)

A true scoring magician and, until Aleksandar Mitrovic, the all-time record holder with 38 goals in 63 matches. A Partizan and Yugoslavia legend, Bobek led the attack from 1946 to 1956, averaging 0.60 goals per game.

1. ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC (62 GOALS)

Debuting at just 19 under coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, Mitrovic quickly showed his potential. His first goal came in 2013 in a World Cup qualifier against Croatia at the Marakana. Over the following years, “Mitrogol” reached 100 caps, overtook the long-standing record of Bobek, and with 62 goals, became Serbia’s all-time top scorer. His average is 0.62 goals per game.
