Following our article on the best Montenegrin male tennis players, we now present the top 5 Montenegrin female tennis players of all time. As before, the main criterion is their highest WTA ranking achieved during their professional careers. Unlike the men’s side, Montenegro has had far more success in women’s tennis – including one player who was a regular member of the world’s Top 100. Let’s take a look:
5. Milica Sljukic
We begin our list with the lesser-known player Milica Sljukic. She has been a member of the Montenegrin national team since 2012. Her career-high WTA singles ranking was No. 1186, achieved on September 30, 2013.
4. Vladica Babic
Next up is Vladica Babic, who turned professional after attending Oklahoma State University. Her best WTA ranking was No. 485, reached on December 9, 2019.

3. Ana Veselinovic
In third place is Ana Veselinovic, a former tennis player born in Herceg Novi. Until April 2013, she competed under the Serbian flag, and actually achieved her career-high ranking of No. 329 while representing Serbia — on September 10, 2007. From 2013 onward, she represented Montenegro, posting a 6–3 win–loss record in national team competitions.

2. Danica Krstajic
The first Montenegrin female player to make a notable breakthrough on the WTA rankings was Danica Krstajic. At just 20 years old, she reached her career-high ranking of No. 223 on October 8, 2007. Unfortunately, due to recurring injuries, she was forced to retire in 2012. Although she never played a main-draw match on the WTA Tour, she did appear in the qualifying rounds of several events.
1. Danka Kovinic
By far the most successful Montenegrin tennis player of all time is Danka Kovinic. She began her professional career in 2010, and achieved her best WTA ranking of No. 46 on February 22, 2016. Kovinić has competed in all four Grand Slam tournaments — reaching the third round at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros, and the second round twice at the US Open. Wimbledon remains the only Slam where she has not advanced past the first round.

She has played three WTA finals (Tianjin 2015, Istanbul 2016, Charleston 2021), finishing as runner-up each time. Kovinic also represented Montenegro at two Olympic Games — in Rio 2016 and Paris 2024. Although she was eliminated in the opening round on both occasions, she had the great honor of carrying the national flag during the opening ceremony in Paris 2024.
