Since December 1992, the world governing body of football, FIFA, has been using its ranking to show the current strength of the world’s best football teams. The FIFA world rankings has suffered considerable criticism over time, and therefore the method of calculating points has changed several times, so that FIFA finally accepted the Elo ranking method in 2018. Either way, the FIFA ranking is the official ranking of the best football teams in the world and plays an important role in the draw for major competitions.

HISTORY
So far, eight national teams have been on the first place in the FIFA world rankings, namely: Brazil, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Argentina, France, Italy and The Netherlands. The most successful is Brazil, which spent a total of 5,070 days in first place, which is more than 3,000 days more than the closest follower, Spain.
The FIFA ranking list currently has 207 member countries, and the highest number was 211 at one point.
